EXPLORING PERSPECTIVE
Landscape / Architecture // Design Research Unit // Fourth Year

Perspective, along with beauty, is within the eye of the beholder. Perspective - both physical and metaphorical - and beauty, are dependent on the position of the inhabitant within a landscape: a position in time, space, or both.

During this exploration, ideas of perspective are examined through studying the life cycle of a quarry and the various perspectives this provides within one space.
By devising a process to create a quarried landscape, the notions of positive and negative space are explored and tested to see whether a visitor’s perspective changes when spaces are displayed conventionally in the perspective to which he or she are accustomed, as well as in unfamiliar circumstances that may challenge the presupposition of each space.

The notion of void space is challenged and manipulated by removing areas of material in a quarried landscape and refabricating the remnants to create an alternative landscape; the reassembled void. These conventional and alternative landscapes present an alternative perspective of the space and challenge preconceptions of known landscapes.
